Leek is an ancient borough and was granted its royal charter in 1214. It is the nearest town to Isle Farm, a 10 minute drive to Sainsburys which also happens to be the closest shop in the area. Leek is a thriving market town that has a variety of markets, one of our favourites in the monthly Totally Locally market. You will find a selection of supermarkets, 2 doctors surgeries, 2 vet surgeries, 5 dental practices, 5 schools as well as a large number of independent shops, restaurants and pubs as well as the Foxlowe Arts Centre. Leek also has a small local hospital, Moorlands Hospital which has a minor injuries unit.
Rushton Spencer is the nearest village at 2 miles away and has a brilliant local community. The Royal Oak is a community owned pub that hosts numerous events including the Rushton Exchange once a month on the third Saturday morning of the month. Its an opportunity for locals to bring their crafts and wares to sell and buy, grab a coffee and have a chat. There is also another pub in the village, The Knot Inn which serves good food and is in an ideal location for walkers, start here and walk the Staffordshire Way down to Rudyard Lake, around the lake and back, it’s a good 7ish mile walk and you will certainly work up an appetite. Rushton also has its own primary school.
Meerbrook is a little further away at nearly 3 miles, also has a lovely pub with great food, The Lazy Trout. The local community centre is active.
The Heaton and Swythamley Centre is another local community centre which can be hired for events and also holds events for locals including move nights in the winter, the occasional dinner/dance.
Wincle is about 3 miles away and also has an active local community.
All 3 villages have Facebook groups to keep everyone up to date with news and events.
Congleton, another market town is 8 miles away, Macclesfield with its railway station is 10 miles away. The journey time by train from Macclesfield to Manchester, on average, takes 30 minutes.
